  2. Read_Me file for Canon printers.
  3. --------------------------------

  5. The "Canon Bubblejet" printer definition file may
  6. be used with any of the Canon black and white  
  7. printer which support Canon Extended Mode printing.
  8.  
  9. The BJ-10ex, BJ-300 and BJ-330 should
  10. have their DIP switches set for Emulation Mode 1
  11. (IBM Proprinter X24E/XL24E). To do this on the
  12. BJ-300 and BJ-330 set switches 1-1 and 1-2 to ON.
  13. For the BJ-10ex set switches 10 and 11 to OFF.
  14.  
  15. It is also possible to use the "Epson.LQ-860"
  16. printer definition file with  the Canon BJ-10ex,
  17. BJ-300 and BJ-330 printers, if their DIP switches
  18. are set for Emulation Mode 2 (Epson LQ850/LQ1050).
  19. The printouts produced in this configuration will
  20. be poorer, particularly if international character
  21. text printing or graphics resolutions above 180 by
  22. 180 DPI are used.

  24. The "Canon.BJC-800" printer definition file is for
  25. use with the Canon BJC-800 colour printer. It is
  26. identical to the Epson.LQ-860 file, except for the
  27. graphics resolutions above 180 by 180 DPI, which
  28. are interlaced on the LQ-860 (and hence do not
  29. allow colour). On the BJC-800 all resolutions
  30. right up to 360 by 360 DPI are non interlaced and
  31. hence can print in colour. The true 48 pin dumps
  32. (180 by 360 and 360 by 360 DPI) use the Epson
  33. commands ESC "*" 71 and ESC "*" 72 and thus may
  34. work on other Epson compatible 48 pin printers
  35. (eg. the Star SJ-48 inkjet printer). If you wish
  36. to print on A3 paper, you will need to use the
  37. control panel on the BJC-800 to set the line
  38. length to 11 inches in the NVRAM.

  40. Note that the BJC-800 is compatible with the RISC
  41. OS 3.10 parallel port software. RISC OS 3.00 and
  42. earlier versions do not work with the BJC-800 if
  43. you print anything larger than about 7K (the size
  44. of the buffer in the BJC-800 printer).

  46. IMPORTANT! If you intend to print on A3 paper
  47. using the BJC-800, you must remember to set the
  48. BJC-800 so that the line length is set to 11"
  49. instead of 8", otherwise printouts will get
  50. cropped.

  52. The "Canon.BJC-600" printer definition file is for
  53. use with the Canon BJC-600 colour printer.
  54.  
  55. The "Canon.BJC-600e" printer definition file is for
  56. use with the Canon BJC-600e.  This definition file 
  57. supports Canon Extended Mode.
  58.  
  59. The "Canon.BJC-610" printer definition file is for 
  60. use with the Canon BJC-610.  This definition file 
  61. supports 720 dpi printing in Canon Extended Mode.
  62.  
  63. The "Canon.BJC-4000" printer definition file is for
  64. use with the Canon BJC-4000.  This definition file 
  65. supports Canon Extended Mode.
  66.  
  67. The "Canon.BJC-210" printer definition file is for 
  68. use with the Canon BJC-210. This definition file 
  69. supports Canon Extended Mode. The Canon BJC-210 is 
  70. factory set to default to BJ emulation. You need 
  71. to set LQ emulation before using the 210 with 
  72. !Printers. This need only be done once. Refer to 
  73. the printer user guide, or follow these
  74. instructions:
  75.  
  76.     - make sure the printer is turned off for at 
  77.       least 15 seconds
  78.  
  79.     - press and hold the power button, and listen 
  80.       for printer beeps
  81.  
  82.     - wait for eight beeps, then release the power 
  83.       button
  84.  
  85. This sets European LQ mode, which is remembered
  86. until the set-up is changed again. The printer is
  87. now ready to use with !Printers.
  88.  
  89. The Canon BJC-240 and BJC-250 use the same printer 
  90. definition file of the BJC-210. The BJC-250
  91. introduces support for printing on more media
  92. types like Glossy Photo paper and Banner printing.
  93. The former will become available with the 
  94. !Photoreal driver for the BJC-240. Banner printing 
  95. is not supported yet, but it is available from 
  96. DOS/Windows emulation via PC cards.

  98. The "Canon.BJC-4100" printer definition file is for
  99. use with the Canon BJC-4100.  This definition file
  100. supports Canon Extended Mode.

  102. The "Canon.BJ-130e" printer definition file is for
  103. use with the Canon BJ-130e printer. It is
  104. identical to the generic BubbleJet file except
  105. that it works around a bug found in the BJ-130e in
  106. the 60 by 72 and 120 by 72 DPI graphics
  107. resolutions. These are 8 pin dumps, and the
  108. BJ-130e gets the line pitch wrong, resulting in
  109. gaps between each print head pass. This is
  110. corrected by telling the printer to line feed by
  111. 20 units instead of the correct value of 24 (the
  112. units are supposedly n/216 inch). By doing this
  113. the printouts have the correct aspect ratio and do
  114. not have gaps.

  116. It is interesting to note that 20/180 is equal to
  117. 24/216. It would appear that when working in
  118. vertical units of n/216 inch the bit image data is
  119. processed correctly but the line pitch is not, the
  120. line pitch in fact being in units of n/180 inch.
  121. If you try to do a 60 by 60 or 120 by 60 mode by
  122. telling the printer to operate in vertical units
  123. of n/180 inch, then the line pitch comes out
  124. correctly but the bit image data is too small
  125. vertically, so you still end up with gaps but the
  126. aspect ratio of the printout is correct. The gaps
  127. cannot be eliminated by telling the printer to
  128. change from 5:6 aspect ratio to 1:1 using ESC "n".
  129. Thus it is impossible to produce a printer
  130. definition file which works around the bugs on the
  131. BJ-130e, and also produces correct output on the
  132. BJ-10e and BJ-300.

  134. The files "Canon.LBP1260-12" and Canon.LBP1260.6"
  135. PDFs are for the use with the Canon LBP-1260
  136. laser printer with the Postscript option fitted.
  137. They support 1200 and 600dpi respectively.
